Hi.

Thanks for stopping by! Let's get sweaty and figure out this whole parenting thing together!

Let’s Make the Ocean

Let’s Make the Ocean

Two things happened last week.

While in the middle of meal prep on Sunday, Dylan asked if she was going to school. I told her that it was Sunday and she would go to school tomorrow. She responded “Oh, I don’t learn today.”

Straight dagger to the guilt-ridden working mom heart of mine, who juggles weekend errands with entertaining her toddler.

The second thing that happened was that after watching Moana for the millionth time, Dylan asked to go to the ocean. I promised we could go, when the weather allowed it. That appears to be a very hard concept for a two year old to grasp because she asks every day. Every. Single. Day. For the last week.

This weekend’s weather wasn’t going to allow for a trip to the beach, so I decided to figure out a way for Dylan to “learn” on the weekend.

Using one of the many empty Olly bottles I had lying around the house (because they are plastic, have a lid, and are easy for little hands to hold) we made the ocean in a bottle.

It was such an easy and fun activity for Dylan because she was able to do everything herself.

She poured in the water (just about 1/3 of the bottle) and added in a couple drops of teal food coloring.

Then she poured in blue glitter (honestly this was the messiest part and she immediately tried to put it in her mouth. TOO SOON FOR GLITTER!).

Last she added in the canola oil. We put the lid back on and started to shake.

The end result is a fun bottle of blue that does have an ocean feel.
